What's this all about?

Man Out is a research and community-building project focusing on men of all races and ages who are—or feel that they are—on the sidelines of life in the U.S.

Some have been pushed out of the mainstream; some have chosen to be on the outskirts of 21st-century America. This isn’t the way our country should be and isn’t the way it used to be, at least for most men.

Are they victims or culprits, or something in between? Have they failed or has society, the system, failed them? Or is there something else going on here?

We are looking for answers.

Some have been pushed out of the mainstream; some have chosen to be on the outskirts of 21st-century America. This isn’t the way our country should be and isn’t the way it used to be, at least for most men.

Let’s be clear: This is not the story of most men. Most have decent jobs, are good fathers and husbands, and strive to succeed for themselves, their families, and even the nation. What it is, is the story of a growing number of American men.

Are they victims or culprits, or something in between? Have they failed or has society, the system, failed them? Or is there something else going on here?
