The typical young man's wages, after adjusting for inflation, have fallen sharply since 2000. Many are deeply dissatisfied with the way things are going in America.

Only 71 percent of 18 to 34-year-old men were employed in 2014, compared to 84 percent in 1960. The typical young man's annual wages, after adjusting for inflation, have shrunk by an average of $2,610, while the costs of housing, higher education, and basic goods have steadily risen.

It should be no surprise that 35 percent live with their parents. Many are deeply dissatisfied with the way things are going in America, and that's putting it diplomatically.

Only 71 percent of 18 to 34-year-old men were employed in 2014, compared to 84 percent in 1960. The typical young man's annual wages, after adjusting for inflation, have shrunk by about $2,340, while the costs of housing, higher education, and basic goods have steadily risen.

It should be no surprise that 35 percent live with their parents, 25 percent live with other relatives or roommates, and only 28 percent live with a partner or spouse; by comparison, about 60 percent were married in 1980.

Many are deeply dissatisfied with the way things are going in America. With the decline of manufacturing industries and the inevitability of automation they are rightly worried about their futures. Millennial women, on average, are doing a little better than men—something that was never true in past generations.
